As an Intern, you will be able to interact with key leaders of our various sustainability and CSR teams to make further impact in the communities where we live and work

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Understand and describe SD4G and CSR at Boehringer Ingelheim as well as additional ways we can contribute.
- Describe the ways BI fulfills its purpose as it contributes to the accomplishment of global goals.
- Complete an assignment designed to help BI better track volunteerism across the enterprise.
Objectives 1 and 2 can be fulfilled through interviews with stakeholders across the company and information gleaned from BI website.
Stakeholders include:
- VP Corporate Affairs
- SVP HR and Communications
- Director, BI Cares Foundation and CSR
- Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer
- Chief compliance and Ethics Officer
- Vice President, Environment, Occupational Health, Safety and Sustainability
- Chief of Staff to CEO and US SD4G
Objective 3 Assignment Description
Volunteerism at BI is decentralized — there is no guidance, especially for hands on volunteering. In 2023, the team has launched a skills-based volunteerism platform to compliment the global programs. Formally BI supports volunteerism in several ways but would like to expand. Below is a list of ways we volunteer and expansion ideas :
- Possible Expansion:
- 16 hours of paid time off are provided to U.S. employees to use for volunteering
- Employees who volunteer a minimum of 50 hours over one calendar year are eligible for a $500 donation to a charitable organization. Employees may apply for two volunteer awards per year
- Creation of a tool or platform for volunteerism enabling employees in the U.S. to search for and sign up for volunteer opportunities. The tool will also track volunteer time.
- Current
- Employees can donate their skills through the Skills2Give program, administered by catchafire.org, either individually or as a team through Rapid Fire events.
- In the site locations, where the company’s largest sites are located, colleagues participate in organized opportunities through the hands on programs. These are created organically by the business teams.
- Other U.S. sites and ex-U.S. markets host and/or promote community volunteering opportunities.
The goal of this assignment is to increase the use of the existing volunteerism platform in the US (possible globally), enabling the company to deliver volunteer opportunities to the workforce and track their participation and collective impact more effectively.
Deliverables for this assignment are:
- Excel spreadsheet listing volunteering opportunities and corresponding organizational contacts at each site and market
- Deck presenting ideas and suggestions. on how staff involved in organizing volunteers could communicate and collaborate better and offer suggestions on how volunteerism could be promoted more effectively enterprise-wide.

Requirements:
- Must be an Undergraduate, Graduate, or Professional Student in good academic standing.
- Must have completed 12 credit hours within a related major and/or other related coursework.
- Overall, cumulative GPA (from last completed quarter) must be at least 3.200 (on 4.0 scale) or better (No rounding up).
- Major must be related to the field of internship.
Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Communications skills
- Ability to create a business case and plan
Compensation: This position offers an hourly rate typically between $20/ hour and $33/ hour commensurate to the level of degree program in which an applicant is actively enrolled. For an overview of our benefits please click here.

- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
