The Children’s Tumor Foundation is a 501(c3) nonprofit organization committed to ending neurofibromatosis through research.  Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder that can cause tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. It affects 1 in 3,000 people and there is no effective treatment or cure. (Learn more about NF atwww.ctf.org.)

The Communications Intern will support the Communications department at the national headquarters in New York City in various aspects of media relations, marketing, digital communications and nonprofit storytelling.  This person would be joining our team leading up to (and during) the largest awareness campaign of the year – tasks and responsibilities would reflect that:

  • Participating in brainstorms for public awareness campaigns
  • Assisting on the preparation and planning for May NF Awareness Month
  • Drafting copy for upcoming social posts, blog posts, newsletter articles, marketing pieces, etc.
  • Conducting research
  • Pulling media lists
  • Building a library of content for social media sharing
  • Track media coverage and clip press hits
  • Opportunity for special event and other department support (including Development, Programs, and Research/Science) as projects present themselves
  • Work closely with all members of the department and report to the PR Manager.
Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student with education, experience and interest in non-profit marketing and communications
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills are essential
  • Familiarity with Vocus is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage time, set priorities, balance multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Able to commit 20-25 hours per week January-May (*will accommodate academic schedule)

Compensation: $15/day plus an unlimited monthly Metro card

School credit, if appropriate
