Founded in 1909 and located in New Jersey, The Newark Museum of Art (NMOA) is the state’s largest museum and ranks twelfth nationally in terms of collection size. Global and diasporic, the collection includes more than 130,000 artworks, as well as significant holdings of science and natural history. Internship Summary : The Intern, People & Culture plays an integral role in supporting various functions of the People and Culture department, including talent management, learning and development, staff wellness, and diversity, equity, access, and inclusion (DEAI). The individual will gain practical experience and comprehensive exposure to the department’s functions, contributing to the creation of an open and inclusive workplace environment. A s a member of the 2024 Summer Internship Program cohort, the individual will have the opportunity to connect with their peers and other museum staff during lunchtime sessions, staff meetings, and museum programs.
Duration: The 2024 Summer Internship Program runs eight continuous weeks and 28 hours per week, from June 18 th to August 9 th .
Work Schedule: This internship is part-time, hybrid onsite/remote position, required to work onsite 3 days per week /may work from home up to 1 day per week.
Responsibilities
- Support the People and Culture department’s efforts in the areas of talent management, learning and development, staff wellness, and diversity, equity, access, and inclusion (DEAI).
- Assist in the maintenance of records management related to personnel, medical, and Form I-9s.
- Conduct research on best practices, activities, and resources, and propose initiatives for staff engagement and to further the Museum’s commitment to DEAI.
- Assist in preparing agendas, scheduling meetings, and collecting minutes for the DEAI Committee.
- Assist in coordinating onboarding activities for new hires.
- Assist in organizing and cataloging materials and resources to revamp the museum staff’s intranet/The Virtual Muse.
- Contribute to the coordination of DEAI-related content on the Museum’s website.
- Assist in the maintenance of the staff breakroom/The Muse.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Attributes
- Undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
- Major or focus in human resources, labor relations, communication, business administration, social science, psychology, art history, museum studies, or other related fields.
- Creative thinking and growth attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Good presentation facilitation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerBI, Outlook).
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, move about, and access and operate equipment.
- Ability to lift and move, up to fifteen (15 pounds).
Rate: $15.13/hour
